Does your church challenge you? Seriously. Think about all the things that are going on in the world. Truly think on a global level and ask is your church challenging you. I think the Christian church has some fundamental flaws and lacks connectivity to current world events. The black church in my opinion is even further behind the curve than mainstream churches in America.
Now do not get this confused with what my Christian beliefs are. I believe in Jesus as my Lord and savior, I believe in the holy trinity, etc. etc.
My concern is what is really being discussed and taught in today’s churches. Are these things really what should be discussed or should there be a broader platform of teaching going on in our churches.

It’s that time of year where several Christian churches practice Lent. The Lenten season is a 40 Day period before Easter. During this time, people that are members of the Catholic, Methodist, AME churches and a few others use this 40 day period to prepare themselves for the resurrection of Christ on Easter.
During this period most Christians who follow this practice fast for the 40 days leading up to Easter. In the past I usually try to pick something to give up during this time that isn’t easy to live with out for 40 days.
The Lent season started on Ash Wednesday March 1st. This year after much thought and prayer I have decided to give up sex and sodas for Lent. As most you who read my blog know I really enjoy sex and the fun experiences that come about leading up to and after my encounters. lol But, in an attempt to get into a closer walk during this period. I will not partake in the wonders of the female body.
As far as the sodas are concerned, I grew up here in Atlanta and Coca Cola was a staple of my diet. I joke with people a lot and say that coke was put into my bottle as a baby. It wasn’t that serious, but drinking coke in my family is as common as drinking water. In fact one of the only rules of the house at my grandmother’s home is don’t ever drink the last coke.
It is funny just last night I was already propositioned by two females to come over for some sexual fornication, but had to decline. So we will see how this goes. I am pretty confident that I will make it through. I have been celibate on two different times in my life and each time I was celibate for about a year each time. So 40 days should not be a problem. Also, on Sundays during Lent you do not have to keep up your fast. But I will continue it thru the first Sunday after Ash Wednesday for sure, because it’s only a couple of days away. After that all bets are off, but we will see.

One of the things that I have always envisioned in my Christian walk once I became married was to have a Bible study that was a couples only study that focused on keeping the spice in the marriage. One of the disappointing things I recognized in church is that there seemed to be a lot of dead marriages. No excitement. In the men’s Bible study that I was a regular, the married guys would open up and talk about the lack of the excitement in their marriage when it came to the bedroom.
If you can’t have the excitement and pleasure you want when you get married, when are you suppose to? In the Christian faith, we tend to make sex this nasty dirty thing that you are not suppose to discuss and is so wrong. I think the main reason that happens is because the church focuses so much on keeping the non-married part of the congregation from having sex, that the married people keep it in their head that sex is a sin.
Back to my vision. It would be a Bible study that me and my wife would host and discuss all of the taboo issues of sex in regards to being a good Christian. Of course be able to back up the discussion with scripture and not just say, well you are married you can do what you want. However, in my mind, if you are married and a Christian you should be able to do whatever is comfortable with you and your spouse in your bedroom.
I am curious of what people think of a few issues as it relates to sex and being a married Christian.
1. Watching Pornography – a lot of people enjoy pornography to spice up the bedroom. Whether it’s getting new techniques or watching it to help arousal with a partner. But, of course the Church views it as something that is sinful.
2. Sex Toys – I have never really heard one way or the other a direct issue with this but would be curious to hear how some Christians feel about sex toys. I know that in a good deal of Churches that it would be frowned upon to say the least.
3. 3 somes – This is something that goes back to what I mentioned before, if both parties are comfortable with having a 3rd party in the bedroom, is it wrong as a Christian. Now, I am not putting this out there for those to just say oh hell naw that’s wrong, I want serious thought about it. If you and your spouse are both saved, but feel comfortable having a 3rd party in your bedroom to spice things up, is it wrong?
4. Anal Sex – I have had some say that anal sex isn’t natural and isn’t Godly. Why not? Again, I ask, if you and your spouse are comfortable with it, why not?
5. Domination and submission – now this one, can go a lot of ways. You will have some that say, well a wife should submit to her husband anyway. Does the wide definition that comes with D/s sit ok with the Church?
These were just a few things sexually that I would be interested in knowing how you guys felt about if you were or are in a Christian marriage relationship. For me I wouldn’t have a problem with any of the 5 listed. The 3some would be something that I would have to be extremely sure that my wife would be ok with simply because I know that it could case issues in the marriage as a result of jealousy and things of that nature. Scripturally I am not sure what would be the stance against it, other than coveting another man’s wife. But, if the 3rd party is a single female, then what?
Feel free to add something on the list that you would be curious about sexually in a marriage to add to the mix and share your thoughts.

I am really not sure what made me write this, but here you go.
A lot of times you hear people talking about America and how it’s foreign policy is wrong and we don’t treat other countries very well. We have been called the great Sodom and Gomorrah of this era. We are portrayed as being the evil empire by a lot of people both inside and outside of the country.
I have to be upfront and say that I am one that criticizes American Policies frequently. If what the American Government does doesn’t sit well with you, it’s a Necessary Evil.
America is the only super power, with very few other countries being close to our power in military and economic prowess. The thing the average everyday person has to realize is that to remain a super power, America has to do some unpopular things.

Was watching CNN this morning as I am getting ready to head out for the day. Can you believe the bullshit that is going on now with the Katrina aftermath? Maybe you didn’t hear it yet, so let me tell you. The government has started issuing contracts to companies to do the clean up of the different areas hit by Katrina. Now for the sake of having the contracts issued quickly and getting the clean up started as fast as possible. They did not have any bidding for the contracts. So what does that mean? Who ever submits a bid, can ask whatever they want for the contract without any competition coming in to make sure that the price is fair. Which means there will be a great deal of profit made on the clean up. So now the taxpayers of America will have an additional burden of paying extra for this clean up.
Now to make matters worse. Who are two companies that have already gotten bids? Kellogg & Brown is one and another company that is headed by Joseph Allbaugh. Now, Kellogg & Brown is a subsidiary of good ole Haliburton. Who are they? They are the company that Vice President Dick Cheney was CEO of before he became Vice President and is a company that he still receives compensation from. They paid him $194,000 in 2004. They are also one of the main companies that has received huge bids for the rebuilding of Iraq. Now the other company that is headed by Joseph Allbaugh is as interesting. Who is Allbaugh? He is the former FEMA director and is the person that hand picked current FEMA director Mike Brown. Mike Brown is the idiot who screwed up quite a bit recently and was told to go back to Washington. So, the guy that put the idiot in place that was not qualified to be FEMA director will now benefit from this guy’s mistakes.
This is just a slap in the face. Not only is the current administration not being held accountable for what is going on. They are profiting from it. And profiting from it, in a very big way. The contracts to just these two companies are in the Billions of dollars.

There was an article recently published in the Atlanta Journal & Constitution about Bishop Eddie Long who is the pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church located in one of the suburbs of Atlanta. Some of you may be familiar with Bishop Long. He is on the Christian channel frequently and does quite a bit of touring and preaching around the country. His Church is one of the largest in the State of GA if not the largest. The article was about the money and benefits he received through a non-profit charity organization he set-up.
Now I will state my feelings about Bishop Long up front. I truly enjoy the message that Bishop Long brings. I actually think he does a great job of tying scripture into his sermons. My issue with him has been his attire. His attire you ask? The brother obviously works out. I am not mad at him for that. But, to go around wearing muscle shirts and tight fitting suits all the time is a bit much. He has taken it as far as getting the church’s logo printed on the under armor (fitted athletic shirts) shirts he wears and even has worn them under his suit, with just the fitted shirt under. Now, that’s just me and the clothes he wears is neither here nor there to be honest when it gets down to it. But, those were my only real feelings about him until I read this article. Ladies and Gentleman please forgive me for going on this political rant. But, I hope that you read this and pass it on. I am writing this in hopes to help educate those that may not be completely aware of what is going on and also to help create debate, if I am wrong on my understanding please respond. Always respond with your general thoughts as well.
Almost everyday in America if not on the local news on the national news we hear about the Palestinians and the Israelis fighting. We recently have seen how Jews were removed from their homes in the Gaza strip. I had a discussion with my mother about the situation, and she shared with me that she really didn’t know what that whole mess was all about. In my mind, I feel that a lot of people are like that. I know I never really understood the hoopla myself. Here is my interpretation of what has lead up to where we are, so bare with me, it is very interesting stuff.

I read an article in the AJC the other day that was written by a gentleman who writes for the Washington Post. He wrote about the lack of black men in the church. Now he didn’t bash black men, he just gave his on personal account of why he hasn’t been to church. He talked about how he was actually a licensed minister and that he use to be very active in his church and even misses certain aspects of it.
The article to me was not a black man’s article. To me it was an article about a disconnect from men in general with church, but since he and I are both black men, I can live with his topic and will try to share my thoughts on the topic as a black man.
I am at a similar point in my life as this writer. However, he is married with two children. I would hope that I wouldn’t let my spouse and kids go to church alone, but if he is at the point that I am, I can somewhat feel his pain.
