This is one of the new additions to the blog. Back in 2002 I had the idea of writing a book about black sex in America. The book was going to discuss the trends of sex in African Americans. Now this wasn’t going to be based on any serious scientific data. But, what I did do was create a website that had a survey on it. I asked about 45 questions. What I am going to do is repost those questions. The questions were initially asked to all women. I ended up getting over 1,200 responses to the survey.
I am going to post the survey questions individually. Feel free to respond to the question in the comment section of the blog. Also feel free to share any thoughts you have on the results from the survey. Whether you thought you were doing things differently or more in line with everybody else as far as your sex life is concern.
1. On average how often do you actually have sex (closest answer)?
a. None, I am not sexually active
b. Once a month or less
c. Once every two weeks
d. Once a week
e. Twice a week
f. Three times a week
g. Four times a week
h. Five times a week
i. Once a day
j. Two or more times a day
When I asked this question I thought that the biggest response would be in the 3 to 4 times a week range. Considering people in relationships, married, etc. Where do you fit in and where would you think most people would be?
This is the percentage break down of the responses.
a. None, I am not sexually active - 13.5%
b. Once a month or less - 24.1%
c. Once every two weeks - 14%
d. Once a week - 11%
e. Twice a week - 11.6%
f. Three times a week - 10%
g. Four times a week - 5.4%
h. Five times a week - 3.9%
i. Once a day - 2.7%
j. Two or more times a day - 3.9%
I think the thing that surprised me the most was that just over 60% of the people only had sex once a week or less. Maybe the world is not as sex crazed as people would like us to think or is it that people are not just getting as much as they want. What do you think?

Me (female age 23) and mine get it on almost everyday, I’d say on average 5 times a week. We are 6 years deep into a relationship and stay together most of the time. When he is at his own house, I’d say the average drops to maybe once a week. Sex is great, I’d do it twice, three times a day if time permitted. By time we both get done with our days, 5 times a week is about all we can muster!

Right now not sexually active. When I was in a relationship it was at least 5 days a week. Almost an everyday thing.

I would say most weeks I average around 4 times a week. On the slower weeks I say I might lose a day. I’m only sexually active when in a relationship so I guess I have to make up for the times that I’m not in a relationship.

when i am in a relationship, i’d say 8 or more times a week. when i’m single, about 3-5 times a week. i also masturbate almost every day. maybe i’m just a little bit sex crazed!!

I am 29 yr old married female caucasian to a 30 yr old black male and we have been married going on 7 years and together a total of 12 years. We have sex at least once a day majority of the time, except for those few days a month when I cannot be bothered due to nature calling.. But otherwise the sex is good most of the time and exceptional about 2 or 3 times a week. I just feel like if you do it that much it become mondane and boring if you aren’t always trying different things but if you are doing it everyday how many things can you try?

Shoot….I’m on an unwanted sexual hiatus as we speak. LOL I think in my 20’s, I had sex very often. But now that I’ve peaked 30…it’s very rare these days. *sigh*

I’m a 32 year old female. Not in a serious relationship, but have a few (three to be exact) consistant friends. I have two active weekends a month (two to four times in a weekend). The rest of my time is spent with my 5 yr old child. I would say that puts me at about once a week on average.

I (28 and Female) fall into category A-nonw I am not sexually active. However when I am active I fall into category B or D depending on my partners sex drive and sex appeal. Now I may be and odd case because I have issues with sexual intimacy. Still this is my answer.

I love having sex!(29 yr old Female) I have sex 3 times a day. When we wake up and then come home for lunch and right before we go to bed. This has been like that for the past 2 years. And its only sex! We always try new things and different places to keep things spicy!!! Guess I am a sexual person. My significant other and I have been dating for 2 yrs now.

I’m a 30yr old female who’s been dating (living with) the same man for 12yrs…on and off. We’re actually engaged and planning to marry this year. Sex is like a roller coaster in this relationship, some really high flying times and at others just coasting along. We’re intimate maybe once a month (on a good month), but I masturbate fairly often and can call in favor from time to time. Until recently, I had an ongoing separate relationship with someone else in a different state (lasted 6yrs.) It was mostly sexual but feelings got in the way, you know the story. Anyway, I’d like sex more often at home but I’m not going to beg for it. Guess you could say I go for whatever works…

I am James I am a 33 year old virgin, I am not nerdy or geeky, but just belief that sex is a beautiful gift, to be expressed at the right time. I think people who have uncommitted sex are setting themselves for a lot of emotional problems in the long term. Sex is relational not recreational.
