Business Update 4/19/05

Haven’t really done a business update in a minute. We haven’t turned the corner yet, but it’s getting closer. lol We have decided to sell part of our business. Which is kind of interesting considering I mentioned in a previous blog how we thought about selling this part of the business before, but how it was helping us with our current expansion. Well, how sweet is this? We will sell part of our business, which is mainly local, but it will free us up to do more things on a national level and we will still have a direct hand on what is going on here in Atlanta without the headaches. Not to mention we will double what we initially bought the business for in less than two years.

It’s kind of a slick, move, but a good one for both parties involved. The gentleman that is buying this part of our business had initially wanted to come in and be kind of the GM anyway. Just so happened when me and my business partner discussed selling, I gave him a call to see where he was and to put out a feeler. He couldn’t believe it and its been on every since.

He is a younger guy, but we like his charisma, we just have concern about his appearance. He is corn roll down sometimes, sometimes he is puffed out (afro). And other times he is really puffed out (weed). He is a levelheaded guy that has a passion for what we are doing. We both think he is coachable and we plan on staying around enough to make sure things go well. He will basically be our Georgia arm of our national organization. Now for those that don’t think the corn roll or afro thing isn’t an issue, not sure what world you are living in, but you have to have a certain image in certain businesses. Since we deal with multi cultural people and have to deal with corporate sponsors, your appearance will come in play.

We have taken one part of our organization and have directly position ourselves to go against the Big national guy spoken of in a previous blog. So the next 6 to 8 months are going to be a fun ride. Its been quite amazing how we have run across other black business men in our industry that have been dying to be apart of what we are doing as oppose to dealing with the white boy that is running things now. And its nothing against white or black to be honest, this guy is just and asshole. But, just so happens, we have created a national presence using a majority of other black business men and the great thing is that it wasn’t what we set out to do, it just happened that way. I have been joking saying I was going to infuse a black power fist under our logo. lol

The other thing is that we created a new amateur sports tournament that is about to take off. At least we pray that it does. Our first one will be here in Atlanta on June 10 –12. This thing is so hot, that the date can’t get here soon enough. We want to take this thing on a national basis as well. And it can be more profitable than what we are already doing.

We went up to DC this past weekend. Just as a reminder, DC is a very key location for our business. There had been some rumblings the last two weeks about the national guy not treating people fairly. Some of our contacts up there told us that we needed to get up there quickly. So we made the trip and meet with all of the groups up there and had a really good response. So, if everything comes together it will be one hell of a coup.

If you have a good relationship with God keep us in your prayers. Now I am not trying to be funny, but you know if you have a good relationship. You can’t just have anybody praying for you.
